Video Production for Cave Creek, Carefree and the Desert Foothills

In 1968 Arizona's own film commissioner, Fred Graham, built a 160-acre studio in Carefree with soundstages, a 35mm screening room, a Western street and a back lot. Dick Van Dyke lived down the road in Cave Creek and would not move back to Los Angeles, so the network shot The New Dick Van Dyke Show on Stage 1 rather than lose him. That lot is long gone. What it left behind is a pair of towns that are not startled by a camera truck, where a gallery owner, a saloon keeper or a ranch manager gives you a straight answer instead of a legal department.

Why Cave Creek

Local knowledge. National-grade craft.

Influence Studios works the Desert Foothills the way the Foothills actually work: two small incorporated towns, roughly 4,900 people in Cave Creek and 3,700 in Carefree, a town core with no national chain in it, and a year organised around rodeo season, art season and the light. Commercials and brand films for the shops on Cave Creek Road, event coverage that can handle live stock and a crowd, maker and gallery films, resort and wedding work, and the post that follows (edit, color, sound design, CGI) finished in one building. That building is the nearly 10,000 sq ft Glendale studio about 45 minutes back down the Carefree Highway, carrying a 30x10 ft LED volume wall the team calls the highest quality screen in Arizona, a 2,000+ sq ft cyclorama, a podcast suite for up to six and three standing sets.

01

Western venues that are still working businesses

Frontier Town's recreated main street, Harold's Corral, the shop clusters at Stagecoach Village and Las Tiendas, and the Buffalo Chip Saloon on East Cave Creek Road, where live bull riding runs Wednesday and Friday nights in an outdoor arena out back. Add Cave Creek Rodeo Days and its PRCA performances in late March. Coverage here gets planned around livestock, dust and paying customers, never around a closed set.

02

Carefree's downtown is already dressed

The sundial on Sundial Circle has stood since 1959, 90 ft across with a 62 ft gnomon rising 35 ft off the ground, and the four-acre Carefree Desert Gardens beside it hosts the Fine Art and Wine Festivals and, every October, Villafane Studios' Enchanted Pumpkin Garden. Easy Street, Ho Hum Road and Nonchalant Avenue are real postal addresses, not set dressing, which means b-roll in Carefree does half the storytelling before anyone speaks.

03

Artists, horses and a mill that still runs

The Sonoran Arts League's Hidden in the Hills tour opens roughly 150 artists' private studios across Cave Creek, Carefree and north Scottsdale over the two weekends around Thanksgiving. MTM Ranch has worked 870 acres of equestrian ground since 1989. The Cave Creek Museum fires Arizona's only fully operating ten-stamp mill on second Saturdays, October through May, and ten 1,000 lb stamps falling in sequence is a sound worth recording properly rather than replacing in post.

Areas we shoot in Cave Creek

On your street, not just in your city.

Crews work these Cave Creek neighbourhoods and corridors regularly, so call sheets, parking and permits are a known quantity before the shoot day.

  • Frontier Town
  • Stagecoach Village and Las Tiendas
  • Downtown Carefree: Easy Street and Sundial Circle
  • The Spur Cross Road corridor

Photography in Cave Creek

Studio tours, saloons, weddings and the last light off Black Mountain

Most of the photography up here is somebody's livelihood rather than a keepsake. Artists preparing for Hidden in the Hills need clean artwork reproduction and a working-in-the-studio portrait before the yellow signs go up on Cave Creek Road in November. Galleries need product frames good enough to sell a bronze to a buyer who will never stand in front of it. Weddings run at Rancho Mañana and Tonto Bar & Grill, at The Boulders on Tom Darlington Drive and out at Spur Cross, and all of them shoot best in the last hour before Black Mountain takes the sun. Horse portraits are their own discipline and get their own handler and their own call time. When a session needs walls and control instead of weather, the Glendale portrait studio holds five sets, a motorized six-color seamless and a 150 sq ft grass wall.

Shoot on location here, or bring it to the Glendale portrait studio: five standing sets including a motorised six-colour seamless wall, a Victorian book wall and a 150 sq ft grass wall, from $49/hr.

The studio anchors it

The stage behind every Cave Creek shoot.

When the location won’t cooperate (heat, light, noise), production moves to our 10,000 sq ft Glendale facility: a 30 ft LED volume wall, a 2,000+ sq ft cyclorama stage, a podcast suite, and standing sets. Every space books by the hour, online.

Good to know

Cave Creek questions, answered.

Both, and it is worth planning for. Town code caps building-mounted outdoor fixtures at ten feet and bars searchlights or sky-beams without Council approval, which is exactly why the stars show over Black Mountain and why almost nothing on the street is lit for you. Night exteriors here mean shielded units, a generator plan and a longer pre-light, and they pay you back with a sky no amount of grading can fake.

Yes, with the venue and the stock contractor briefed before anyone unloads. Bull riding runs Wednesday and Friday nights at the Chip and Cave Creek Rodeo Days brings PRCA performances in late March. That means multi-camera coverage, long glass from outside the arena, an operator near the chutes only if the stock contractor clears it, and recap edits cut the same week. Large live events are familiar ground for a team that has covered M3F Music Festival and Super Bowl LVII activations.

Maricopa County Parks and Recreation, not the towns. Both preserves are county-managed land with their own permitting, and Spur Cross has protected riparian ground and petroglyph sites that dictate where a tripod can legally go. Anything on a Cave Creek street or in a town right-of-way runs through the town's separate special event permit instead. We file the applications and build the schedule around whichever office moves slowest.
